Book Review: The Maid of Ballymacool, by Jennifer Deibel

From the Back Cover

Brianna Kelly has worked at Ballymacool House and Boarding School since she was a wee girl and will likely die there. Despite a sense that she was made for something more, Brianna feels powerless to change her situation, so she consoles herself by exploring the Ballymacool grounds, looking for hidden treasures to add to the secret trove beneath the floorboards of her room.

When Michael Wray, the son of local gentry, is sent to Ballymacool to deal with his unruly cousin, he finds himself drawn to Brianna, immediately and inescapably. There is something about her that feels so . . . familiar.

When Brianna unearths an intriguing silver platter in the woods, she commits to learning its origins. Could the handsome newcomer hold the key? If so, their discovery could change everything.

My Thoughts:

This was an enjoyable book set in one of my favorite countries. The author is very talented and makes you want to continue turning the pages, and a little disappointed at the end, because the story is over. I liked that both the hero and heroine had their problems that they had to overcome, and I particularly appreciated the mystery element of the tale. I felt myself drawn into the story and feeling sad for Brianna and the life that she had endured, but also rooting for a happy ending for her…which, of course, she got. Overall, a very nice book. The only distraction for me was the language differences that came up, but had I realized there was a glossary at the end, it wouldn’t have been an issue.

I would give this a 4 out of 5 stars. Revell publishers provided me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
